At the start of every year, we are always motivated to set our goals to achieve them throughout the year.
I’ve done goal setting before where I set a huge list of goals and if I didn’t achieve one of them, was extremely sad and demotivated.
For example, if I’ve got 100 things on my list, and only achieved 99, I will go into a grumpy mood and feel flat about it just because I couldn’t complete the list of goals for the year.
Over the years, I’ve learned that it is okay. If you didn’t achieve all of them, just celebrate the ones that you did. Now I’m all good to really just set goals for the year and try to achieve as much as I can. Also, I had no clue how to set goals so I was just winging it.
Even though we are almost in the last week of January, it is still not too late to set your goals and it is never too late to start on anything. Today I will share with you the best goal setting tips that changed my life.
Goal setting is creating a plan with a vision and a timeline. It is like creating your future in advance.
How do we set our goals? Recently, I did a goal-setting workshop with Dale Beaumont and I’m going to model off that structure so you can follow and get it done easily.
Write down your goals
When it comes to setting your goals, the first thing you need to do is write it down. Write 100 goals. Forget about how or when you’re going to achieve that. Dream big, write big stuff that you want to achieve and break it down into different areas of your life.
If you want to do it like a simple one, you can break it down into 4 areas. The first one is money, education, time and mentors.
You can also go further and explore the different areas in your life. Break it down into 8 different parts, which is physical, personal growth, spiritual, family, financial, business, community, and social. I do recommend that you explore all areas of your life.
As an entrepreneur or a business owner, I understand that your main focus can sometimes be more about the business and the finance part of it.
Always remember that you want to be abundant in every area of your life, not just in your business as happiness is the core of your success. When you have that, everything will just flow into place. I did a podcast episode on happiness – Episode 007 Hacking Happiness The Millionaire Way.

I’m going to leave this question for you to go and do your goal setting. What is it that you truly desire? If you want your dreams to come true, you have to take action now in order to be able to achieve your goals for 2021.
Ask yourself, Why?
Next, pick five goals that you want to achieve for the year 2021 and ask yourself, why? Why do we need to create goals?
It gives you clarity of the vision of the life that you want to create. It gives you direction and purpose so that you can live happier, fulfilled, and actually enjoy your dream life.
The best goal setting tip is to ask yourself, “WHY?” I read a book, Millionaire Success Habits by Dean Graziosi where he said, to go deeper and go at least seven levels of why. This will help you understand the goal that you want to achieve and you will feel inspired to focus and take action.
Goals are just goals if you don’t have a timeline, and if you don’t have vision and clarity. When you list out a goal, ask yourself why do you want to achieve it? Why is it important to keep listing it down seven times to get your final answer? If you can go more than seven times and dig it deeper, go for it.
Once you’ve got that all sorted out, break it down into three mini tasks and include a date. Those dates will be your finish date and a timeline that you’ve set for yourself. Without a timeline, you tend to procrastinate and not get it done.
Create A Vision Board
You can create a physical or a digital one. You can use some magazines to cut out the ideas or the goals that you have and put them on your vision board.
I did mine in Canva and it still works. Put it in front of you every day so you can visualise it and see your dreams come true with you taking action on your goals every single day.
I used to think that creating a vision board is a little bit “woo”. I asked myself how do you achieve your dreams by just creating a vision board? It seemed impossible.
I started looking around online all about vision boards and how they can help you achieve your dreams and your goals.
Visualising your future works, believe it or not. I’m going to be sharing with you a vision board that I probably created about 2 to 3 years ago.
One of them is I wanted to have a remote working life with lots of freedom in time where I can work anywhere. Any country, any place or any cafes as long as there’s an internet connection.
That was my goal and dream as I was a burnt-out beauty salon owner prior to being an online coach. I didn’t have any flexibility in time to spend it with my little one and my family. I missed out on a lot of milestones when my little one was growing up between the age of a newborn to about 3 years old.
Fast forward a few years later after selling off the business, I am living that life now. It’s just so surreal. Even now, I’m still shocked by what I have achieved. So far, it was not an easy road because from having a physical business store to having a purely remote online business, it’s just so different.
I had to learn a lot of things, I invested in mentors and programs, in courses and things like that. It was not only an investment in money but also in time.
I’m so happy to share with you that I achieved that goal and the dream of mine. Every day I celebrate, and it feels amazing to be able to have the time to spend with my little one. Now, I get to experience his milestones, everything that he’s learning and he’s turning into a fine gentleman.
Hopefully soon, he’ll be the next social media star. Watch out for him in probably 10 years.
Whatever I do right now, he’s involved in some of the processes because I’m trying to show him what entrepreneurship is like. I let him make decisions, especially with my TikTok and Reels videos. He gets a say in some of them when he’s free to take a look and ask me, does that look good? Is that ready to be posted?
I know he’s just seven years old, but hopefully someday, if that’s the path that he wants to take, then I’ll be extremely happy. I’ll be there to just guide him every step of the way and who knows, we might even become business partners in years to come.
Another thing that I put on my vision board is to be living in Melbourne.
I moved here a year ago, and I’m truly enjoying life here. It’s so great to be able to live in Australia. It used to be like a second home for me, when I was living back in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It’s now just my home and I’ve never been happier.
All of these took a while. It’s about having a lot of patience and just trusting in the process and in yourself. Just never give up, no matter how hard the challenge comes along the way. Trust me when I say that creating a vision board will bring your dreams to life as I’m living my dreams right now.
It’s time for you to go ahead and just create your goals and your vision board.
If you can’t create a physical vision board, it’s fine. Just go ahead and do a digital one in Canva like what I did. Save down that image, print it out, paste it on the wall or put it on your phone as a wallpaper or screensaver and make sure that you have it in front of you every day. This is for you to visualise it, get inspired, be focused and be able to go and achieve those goals.
