Instagram Stories may be uncomfortable for some people and I totally get it because I was in the exact same position as you if you’re thinking that Instagram Stories is just not for me. I would like to publish some Instagram Stories but how do I get more views? Or, you have been publishing consistently but my views have dropped recently.
Now I’m going to be sharing with you my story on the very first Instagram Story that I’ve uploaded.
I remember I was sitting down on the couch in my apartment. I was just trying to record a few stories just to test out how I look and sound on video. I had my little man just right beside me observing what I was doing at that time. Every time that I’m recording a video, he would always ask me, can I be in your video? I looked at him and said, “Sure, why not!”.
When I put the video on, he is such a natural like the camera just didn’t exist. I was looking at him thinking if he can do that at the age of seven years old, why not me?
So I gave it a go and put it all out there, recorded and published without any fear in the world. That feeling of being able to publish without that limiting belief of thinking, it was just such a great feeling.
It was quite addictive to start recording Instagram Stories especially on videos and uploading it every single day. That is the story of how I got myself on to a video on Instagram stories.
I totally get it if you’re just not comfortable being in front of the camera but once you’ve crossed that hump, you will be able to do it like a breeze. You’ll be able to do it so naturally that you don’t even feel that there is a camera right in front of you.
Once you post onto your stories, you’re thinking why are my views so low. And recently with the constant updates, the views have dropped. You want to post your Stories and get more views so that you can share your message with more people. With that, I’m going to be sharing with you the tips on how to get more views.
Tip #1: BE CONSISTENT
The first one is to be consistent. You have to post every single day and you have to keep showing up for your audience. I know it is hard to stick to a consistent schedule. You can try by starting off with five a day, one in the morning, mid morning, afternoon, evening and night to build the momentum and take it from there.
Bonus Tip: If you are busy throughout the day, you can set an alarm to remind you to do that. Setting an alarm is a great way to make sure that you get your Stories up. You can always procrastinate when you’re busy and doing it like five minutes later and end up never doing it. I have been there, I put it off until when I’m free.
I know I’ve been missing out on my Stories because I didn’t feel like it for a bit. If you are feeling just like how I felt, it is completely fine. You don’t have to keep pushing yourself if you don’t feel like it. Although I do recommend you to be consistent. you can always be consistent with different formats of content.
Tip #2: SWITCH THINGS UP
To switch things up by posting a variety of content, or media. You can post a variety of content. For example, there are images, videos, Boomerangs, Reels, IGTV or live snippets. You can keep your viewers hooked on to your stories especially when you’re not feeling like being on video, just by switching things and having a mixture of these different types of content.
Tip #3: RELEVANT HASHTAGS
Include hashtags on your Stories so that you can get more reach and visibility, especially through the Explore page. With the hashtags, if you don’t like it sitting on your story, you can hide it behind a sticker or a text with the box that is highlighted.
You can also camouflage it with the background colour that you have in your story. You can use up to 10 relevant hashtags.
Tip #4: INCLUDE GEOLOCATION
Add in your geolocation. If you don’t like that showing on your Instagram Story, you can also hide it behind a sticker or a text box. This helps you reach more of the people that are in your local area.
Tip #5: VALUE, VALUE, VALUE!
Keep providing the value so you can educate, inspire and entertain on your Stories. You can repurpose a piece of content that is sitting on your Instagram feed and take that valuable information and transform into an Instagram Story.
For example, if you have created a post about tips on how to get abs in five days, then you can put that on your Instagram Stories.
You don’t always have to share tips and tricks as a sort of providing your value. Sometimes an inspirational story can also be part of providing value and entertainment.
Recently I’ve just uploaded a Reel, one that I did with my little man. It was us just dancing and having fun. The reason why I uploaded that is that it’s an entertaining piece of content.
It shows my life outside of work while I was actually doing work. I am recording videos for Reels and TikTok that shows my life outside of work or what I do with my little man for fun, and it’s just how we communicate as well.
That piece of content is for people to see the fun in me and how I enjoy being with my little one. It was a fun bite-sized video of how people can relate it to what I do, as a coach, a mumpreneur or entrepreneur, or a working mom.
Here is a big reminder. Don’t forget to include the important pieces in your story highlights because once you have uploaded onto your Stories, they are only available to view for 24 hours.
Your story highlights can actually be another place where you can get more views because it is sitting there even after 24 hours.
