Today I’m going to be sharing with you the 6 reasons why Instagram is not working for you. Let’s start off with why your old strategies don’t work anymore?
Over the years, Instagram has really changed and evolved. It’s no longer just a platform that shares beautiful and highly edited photos, it has really evolved into a platform where you foster relationships through content that turns new leads into clients.
After a wild and challenging year before, people crave human connection and interaction so it’s a great way to expand your business reach and visibility. It’s also a powerful marketing tool for you to expand your online presence.
Engagement and content are one of the keys to profitability on Instagram.
It’s no longer about the likes that you can get as they don’t pay the bills instead, you should focus on content that is shareable and saveable.
You need to be creating more shareable and saveable content if you want your audience to save it to read for later or to share it with anyone because the algorithm views these as valuable content and it starts serving up to more people and increasing your reach.
Less is more. You don’t have to post content daily. Posting more doesn’t mean you gain more reach and followers and it’s not valuable to your audience.
But there’s something that you must take into account, which is consistency. You can be consistent by posting quality over quantity and just showing up every day in different ways.
Now that you have a foundation of how Instagram has changed, you need to know the 6 reasons why Instagram is not working for you so you can avoid making these mistakes again.
#1: Focusing on vanity metrics
This is something that you need to remember that having a huge following does not mean you will be getting more new clients.
If the goal of your Instagram game is to get 10,000 followers, then you’re on the wrong track. You need to ask yourself, why are you wanting 10,000 followers? Is it because of the additional swipe up feature? Or is it because it looks good on you and thinking that you will get more clients that way?
Let’s shift that thinking and focus. Now. You don’t need 10,000 followers for the feature. You don’t need that number to feel confident. You can get clients even with a small following.
#2: On a content hamster wheel
This means that you’re posting too often. You might have stumbled across a recommendation online of how often you should post on Instagram and it might look something like this:
- 3 IG TV’s a week
- 5-7 Reels a week
- 3-4 posts a week,
- 7 to 10 Instagram Stories a day
This looks like way too much content. If you’re going to create filler content just to follow these recommendations, you are going to end up burnt out and overwhelmed. What you need is a clear content strategy. Remember this, quality over quantity. Here’s the equation that you need to stick by:
Quality + Value = Attraction
#3: No clear focus
One of the foundations of Instagram success is that you need to have a clear focus on who you’re talking to. It’s all about knowing who your ideal client is. Tell your audience what your business is about and how you can help them.
#4: Message is not clear
This ties in with the third point of why Instagram is not working for you because when you have not identified your ideal client, then the content that you’re posting is not clear.
If you’re writing for everybody, then you’re speaking to no one, your message needs to be clear. It has to talk directly and specifically to one person in mind. Also, there’s a framework for writing a caption, but first, you need to have a clear focus in order to create a clearer message for your ideal client.
#5: Use the right Call to Action (CTA) or Call to Engagement (CTE)
You need to get your audience to take action right away by telling them what is the next step that they need to take. Bear in mind that no one will be taking any action if they are not guided onto the next step of the journey.
Let’s get real here, no one is going to automatically comment on your post or even share it on stories, or DM you if you don’t tell them to. Ask yourself, are you using the right CTA in your bio?
In your bio, if you want them to download a freebie, put Download Now, if you want them to contact you then just put in Contact Now.
Do you have a call to action or a call to engagement in your stories? If you want them to engage with you on your stories, then put in a CTE. If you want them to take action on something then put in a CTA? It’s always important to include a CTA or CTE as a guide for your audience.
#6: You need to serve before you sell
Ask yourself this question, are you that annoying salesperson that is constantly talking about your services, offers, courses or coaching programs? If you have been talking about “I”, you need to switch it to “You”. It’s all about your ideal client, serve before you sell.
